

Join us for a fun, beginner-friendly class where you’ll learn how to make your very own sourdough starter from scratch!
Led by Italian chef and founder of The Sourdough Science Academy, Roberto Giammellucca, this hands-on session is designed to help you understand the basics of sourdough fermentation, its health benefits, and how to care for your starter using a simple method that doesn’t require daily feeding.

How to make and maintain a sourdough starter

The ingredients you need (and what to avoid)
Step-by-step guidance you can follow at home
What You’ll Do:
Mix your own sourdough starter in class using organic flour
Take home your own living culture to grow and bake with
Ask questions and get expert tips from Roberto
What to Bring:
One clean jar (approx. 300–400ml) with a lid
(Don’t worry if you forget—starter jars will be available for purchase)

A gluten-free version of the starter is available on request for a $5 additional fee.
Please note: this class uses wheat flour in the room and is not suitable for people with coeliac disease due to the risk of cross-contamination.

Community Classes – Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy
By booking a community class with The Sourdough Science Academy, you agree to the
following:
Payment in Full: To secure your spot, payment is required in full at the time of booking. We do not take partial deposits for community classes.
Payment Methods: You may pay online via our website.
Non-Refundable Policy: All class payments are strictly non-refundable.
Rescheduling & Transfers: While we do not offer refunds, we are happy to be flexible. You may:
Reschedule your booking to a future date (subject to availability).
Transfer your spot to a friend or family member if you can no longer attend.
Please notify us as early as possible so we can update our attendee list.
The 24-Hour Rule & No-Shows: Because these classes require significant preparation and have limited seating, any cancellation made less than 24 hours before the class, or failure to attend (no-show), will result in the forfeiture of your payment. In these cases, the payment is gone and cannot be used as credit for future sessions.
If we cancel: You will be notified as early as possible and offered a new date.
Why this policy matters: These classes are low-cost to support the community. Timely
communication helps us keep them accessible and sustainable for everyone.
Refund requests will be accepted only if made at least 4 days before the event start date.
